At LNER, the Service Delivery Team plays a vital role at the heart of our railway, based at York Rail Operating Centre (ROC). We're the people responsible for delivering the train service day in, day out keeping trains running, customers informed, and journeys connected.
You might know us as 'Control', or maybe you have met or spoken with us before at our home in York Rail Operating Centre (ROC). In a nutshell, the Service Delivery Team are responsible for the live delivery of the train plan. While historically this might simply have been about keeping people moving, our role today is about so much more. From units and traincrew to customer information and connections, rail replacement, fleet management and disruption. We work as a team to make sure that we deliver on our customers expectations, and when things go wrong, we are front and centre working to put the plan back together and to make sure our frontline teams have the resources and support they need. Its not always easy, we don't always get everything right, but we will always do our best for our customers and colleagues, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
What you will be doing
Our Resource Controllers are split into two teams, each responsible for a piece of the jigsaw but working together to deploy our trains and people in the most efficient way possible.
The Resource Controller Train Crew is responsible for the live deployment of our Drivers and Train Managers, they work tirelessly to make sure that every train we operate has a crew resourced and that where there is a shortfall, that there is a plan in place to recover the service.
We are looking for talented people to join the team, don't worry if you don't have experience of working with Train Crew or, we can teach you these skills. What we need are people with a desire to learn, who can keep calm under pressure, can problem solve and want to be part of a team.
Of course, with these being such specialist roles, there are a few things we are looking for…
- Be a logical thinker and an effective problem solver
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment and work well under pressure
- Be a team player
- An ability to build strong working relationships
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
- Be IT literate. Knowledge of railway IT systems (TRUST, TREnt, TMV) is an advantage but can be taught to the right candidate
- Knowledge of railway operations and performance are advantageous but can be taught to the right candidate.
Please note, the team work a 3 shift pattern, you must be able to attend work for these shifts in order to undertake the role;
Early turn: 06:15-14:30
Late turn: 12:45-22:00
Night turn: 21:15-06:45
All positions are based with York Rail Operating Centre and the roles cannot be undertaken remotely.

This is a two stage interview process. An assessment centre will be held on Thursday 18th September 2025. If successful at the assessment centre, you will be invited to an in person interview. Interview dates are Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd September 2025.

Medical screening
