Bringing passion. Being bold. Always caring. Owning it. They're the values that make us LNER.

The Details
This role is being offered as 12-month fixed-term contract, however, many of our team have gone on to secure permanent positions after joining us. We are also building a talent pool for known future vacancies, so even if this timing isn't quite right, we'd still love to hear from you.
At LNER, the Service Delivery Team plays a vital role at the heart of our railway, based at York Rail Operating Centre (ROC). We're the people responsible for delivering the train service day in, day out keeping trains running, customers informed, and journeys connected.
Our role goes far beyond simply moving trains. We manage everything live: traincrew and units, customer information and onward connections, fleet availability, disruption planning and recovery. When things don't go to plan, we're front and centre, putting the service back together and making sure our frontline colleagues have the support and resources they need to deliver the best possible experience for our customers.
It's a 24/7 operation, and while it's not always easy, we're proud of the work we do. We're a team that pulls together, finds solutions fast, and always strives to do the right thing for our customers and each other.
What You'll Be Doing
Our Resource Controllers are split into two specialist teams, each managing a crucial piece of the puzzle but always working together to deploy our people and trains in the most efficient way possible.
This role focuses on Rolling Stock – making sure every service has the right trains allocated to run. You'll work closely with internal colleagues and external partners to manage fleet availability, assess restrictions, and help deliver a robust and reliable timetable.
Don't worry if you don't have specific experience working with rolling stock, we can teach you that. What we're looking for are people who can stay calm under pressure, think logically, solve problems, and want to be part of a hardworking, supportive team.
What We're Looking For
- A logical thinker who can problem-solve quickly and calmly.
- Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and works well under pressure.
- A real team player with strong relationship-building skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- IT literate — knowledge of railway IT systems (TRUST, GENIUS, CCF) is helpful but not essential.
Knowledge of railway operations and performance is useful but can also be taught
